I enjoy participating in robotics competitions, especially when they overlap with research goals.

KUKA Innovation Award 2020 - Medical Robotics

I led a team from the Izatt and Kuo labs to enter our robotically-aligned OCT system into the KUKA Innovation Award 2020 competition. Our application involved translating our system to use a KUKA LBR Med for improved motion tracking while retaining human-safe operation. We were selected amongst a group of four finalists to compete at MEDICA 2020, which was held virtually due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Amazon Robotics Challenge

I led a team of undergraduate and graduate students to compete in the 2017 Amazon Robotics Challenge held at ROBOCUP in Nagoya, Japan. Our entry featured a novel hierarchical, transactional state management system that facilitated online and offline debugging of the application’s inner state machine. Prof. Kris Hauser sponsored the team. I also competed in the inaugural Amazon Picking Challenge in 2015.
