Welcome to our Gallery

These eleven pieces of art reflect common themes of the Chicano movement. They are all silk screen posters, a medium of art which was widely used in the movement because of the ease and relatively cheap cost of mass reproduction. These posters were meant to be accessible to all the population, utilizing bold, powerful words and images which conveyed a wealth of meaning. Especially popular were depictions of historical figures important to Chicano history such as Pancho Villa, Che Guevera, and Cesar Chavez. Many of these images were produced in connection with the Royal Chicano Air Force, which is a Sacramento based organization founded in 1969 with the purpose of making art available to the Chicano community. 31
