On the evening of December 14, 2006, there were reports of an aurora visible from the Ann Arbor, Michigan area.
Kurt Hillig took a number of aurora photographs that evening. He sent the following information:
After looking them (the photographs) over there’s really only one that I like (shown above). It’s been Photoshopped to reduce the noise (using NoiseNinja—a product I heartily endorse!), remove the airplane, and sharpen the silhouette of the trees (I’d bumped the focus—grr!).
Canon 20D at ISO 3200, 20 sec. at f/4.5, 17 mm FL. Photo taken from my back porch—the glow on the horizon is from the Baker Rd. truck stops, same ones we see from Peach Mountain.
