Text-only BrowsersLynxLynx is a text-only browser that was developed at the University of Kansas and placed in the public domain in 1995. Web-based versions are available at Delorie software (www.delorie.com/web/lynxview.html) and at W3C (http://cgi.w3.org/cgi-bin/html2txt?url=URL;list). Lynx can also be downloaded for the following operating systems: Macintosh O S 10.2I have been unable to get this to install on my iMac. www.osxgnu.org/software/Networking/lynx Macintosh O S (PowerPC, 7.0+) This is a bare-bones version of Lynx, but it works, so long has you still have Mac Classic or pre-OSX installed on your machine. www.lirmm.fr/~gutkneco/maclynx/download.html Win32 (95, 98, NT) www.fdisk.com/doslynx/lynxport.htm A general list of versions and locations can be found at: www.trill-home.com/lynx/binaries.html Delorie Lynx SimulatorDelorie Software also provides a web based simulation of Lynx (http://www.delorie.com/web/lynxview.html). LinksLinks (http://links.sourceforge.net/) is another open source text browser. Unlike Lynx, Links has a graphics mode and supports Javascript. It was originally developed for the OS2 and Unix operating systems, although a beta version for Win32 (which I haven't found) has been released. An OSX version is also available, although I was unable to locate it after it loaded on my Mac. The few comments I have seen about Links have been favorable. |
