Long desc

The Long desc tag is used to supplement Alt tag descriptions for images. It takes the form of a link to a page providing a detailed description of an image. The Long desc tag is supported in IBM HPR 3.0 and higher, and JAWS 4.01, but not in ordinary web browsers.

Code Example:

<p>
<img src="../Images/Over65E.jpg"
width="350" height="231" alt="Chart showing percent
of people over 65 increasing in U.S. from 1900 to 2050"
longdesc="Over65Description.html"
title="Detailed description of the increasing number of people over
65 in U.S.">
</img>
</p>

"Over65Description.html" content:

<p>In 1900, less than 10 percent of the population was over 55.
By 1960, this percentage had increased to 17 percent. More than 30 percent
of the population will be over 55 by the year 2030; increasing to nearly
35 percent by 2050.</p>
