Secondary Condition: Numerous bleeding lacerations or burns

Medical/Injury Characteristics: Severe burns and lacerations on the victims face and neck areas.

Treatment: Provider should attempt to open the patient's airway, tag black and move on.

 (1) Acute Myocradial Infarction

Triage Categroy: Black

Primary Condition: Medical caridiac arrest from presumed acute myocardial infarction

Secondary Condition: Oozing minor lacerations

Medical/Injury Characteristics: Patient will be perfectly still, lying on his side or stomach. There are no breathing motions, and the patient is pulseless. Minor oozing lacerations on exposed skin can be present. No clear reason for person to be dead.

Vocalizations: None.

Treatment: Tag the patient black and move on.

Analysis: The provider may incorrectly roll the patient onto his back and begin CPR and/or hook up a defibrillator.

 (8) Arterial Bleeding

Primary Condition: Arterial bleeding from the leg

Secondary Condition: Numerous bleeding lacerations or burns

Medical/Injury Characteristics: Extremely bloody clothing.

Vocalizations: Patient should be partially coherent or mumbling, and able to answer basic questions.

Treatment: Should obtain 2 IVs, agressive fluid management and immediate transport. Pressure should never be removed from the wound.

Primary Condition: Approximately 15-20% Body Surface Area (BSA) partial thickness burns.

Secondary Condition: None.

Medical/Injury Characteristics: This patient will be in extreme pain with obvious partial thickness burrns on exposed areas that were facing the explosion.

Vocalizations: Expressions of pain and fear over what happened. (audio)

Treatment: Patient should be carefully bandaged and IV fluids should be started. Pain medications should be given and the patient should be monitored, but transport should not be hurried.

 (16) Eye Occlusion

Primary Condition: Penetrating eye traum with monocular visual loss

Secondary Condition: Other lacerations on face or body

Medical/Injury Characteristics: Patient will keep his or her hands over the injured eye, and will resist attempts for examination because of photosensitivity. Blood trickling down from eye may also be present.

Vocalizations: Expressions of pain.

Treatment: Patient should be bandaged and splinted. IV fluids should be started, and the patient should be monitored, but transport should not be hurried since it should be evident that bleeding is well controlled.

 (11) Massive Hand Trauma

Primary Condition: Major hand trauma.

Secondary Condition: Numerous bleeding lacerations, torn clothing

Medical/Injury Characteristics: Patient will hold injured limb close to the body, supported by the other arm.

Vocalizations: Expression of pain constantly asking what will happen to his/her hand.

Treatment: Patient should be bandaged and splinted. Transport to the hospital should be delayed until all of the immediate/critical patients are removed.

 (26-35) Minor Lacerations

Medical/Injury Characteristics: Minor lacerations on limbs or trunk

Vocalizations: Anxiety, confusion or concern over the situation. Some patients will express pain.

Treatment: Patient should be bandaged and moved toward the green triage area. Social workers and security guards should be employed to help "manage" the scene.
