About Brigitta Winkler

Brigitta is one of the world's most praised teachers and innovative dancers of tango. Her exquisite creativity, clarity and understanding of the dance and music have inspired dancers around the world. Brigitta co-founded the highly respected Tanzart studio in Berlin in 1987, and also the internationally acclaimed Tango Mujer, a pioneer dance company exploring the boundaries between tango and contemporary dance.

In her classes Brigitta integrates her knowledge from over 20 years of international experience in tango dance, instruction and performance with techniques of Body Mind Centering. She is an equally gifted resource for both close embrace and open style tango. Her classes are insightful, creative, and fun!

About Alex Krebs

Alex Krebs, one of North America's most gifted teachers and tangueros, has been enchanting dancers throughout North America, Europe and Buenos Aires. He has received rave reviews for his teaching in Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Sweden and across the United States. He is a creative improviser and has performed internationally with some of tango's most talented tangueras, including Florencia Taccetti and Luciana Valle.

Alex teaches Argentine tango for the social dance floor, emphasizing the improvisatory side of the dance through a strong communication between the lead and follow and on musicality. Alex tries to give his students the vocabulary necessary so that each person can find their own unique way of dancing -- dancing the tango of their own body.

More info about Alex can be found at
www.tangoberretin.com.

About Jaimes Friedgen

Jaimes has been dancing tango since 1996. Over many years, he has studied with a wide variety of teachers, but his two main influences are Angel Echeveria and Mariano "Chicho" Frumboli. He is one of the most popular teachers in the U.S. today, and is well respected for his creativity, musicality and deep insight into the inner workings of the dance. He is driven to be a full time tango teacher by his love of watching people continually grow and blossom through their exploration of tango, and feels very fortunate to be a part of that process. He is also a dynamic performer, and has brought much inspiration to dancers everywhere through his near-manic energy and absolute love of the dance.

More info about Jaimes can be found at
www.freetango.net.

About Robin Thomas

Robin Thomas is considered one of the top tango DJs in North America. He DJs many regular milongas in New York City as well as travels around the country to provide music at festivals. He is famous for keeping the energy high at "marathon" and all night milongas.

Flying to Ann Arbor

The closest major airport to Ann Arbor is Detroit Metro Airport (DTW).

The airport is about 25 miles east of Ann Arbor. From the airport, take I-94 West and follow it all the way to the State Street Exit in Ann Arbor. Take a right on State St. and continue for about 3 miles until you reach the University of Michigan campus.

Transportation to/from the airport.
Public Transportation from the airport to/from Ann Arbor is limited to taxi-cab or a shuttle. Shuttle services might not run periodically. You will have to call them in advance to schedule a pick-up or drop-off. Check the city's visitor guide
transportation page for more information. The area code for Ann Arbor is 734.

You may also try the airports at Flint (FNT) and Toledo (TOL). Sometimes airlines have cheaper fares to these cities. Toledo and Flint are about an hour drive from Ann Arbor.

You don't a car need that much once you are in town, but renting a car at the airport might not be any more expensive than taking the shuttle both ways.

Other Attractions

For visitors who are not interested in taking the workshops during the day.

Detroit Auto Show, January 15-23, 2005. About an hour drive from Ann Arbor.
UMMA - UofM's Museum of Art 525 S. State St - across the street from the Michigan Union.

Bulletin Board

We now have a virtual bulletin board available for you to post your messages regarding sharing rides to/from the airport or sharing hotel rooms. If you would like to get housing with local Ann Arbor Dancers, do NOT post here--instead, send an email to tangohousing@yahoo.com.
