2nd Anniversary Celebration

We welcome you to join us as we celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the Michigan Argentine Tango Club. We've come a long way and we still have a long way to go. This celebration weekend is simply a few steps on that long road...

We will have 2 milongas with invited DJs. Friday - Milonga A Media Luz, in the charming and historic Cobblestone Farm bathed in only candle light. Bring a red rose and admission is free.

Saturday - our good old Milonga Picante in the Pendleton Room. In addition we will have workshops with two of the best social tango teachers in the US.

Some of the local dancers will be opening their homes to guests from out of town (a 25% discount on the workshops is available for locals who house out-of-towners--sign up here if you are interested)

The only thing required to make this a complete celebration is YOU and your participation. Please come and join us for a weekend of music, dancing, camaraderie and fun!

Known for their extraordinary musicality and dynamic movement, Christopher and Caroline are among the finest Argentine tango instructors and dancers in North America. Together they have more than fourteen years of experience dancing and ten years of experience teaching. Both have backgrounds in athletics, body work, yoga, and pilates.

You will enjoy these very caring and generous instructors whose contagious humor creates a positive, upbeat class atmosphere. Skilled and talented, they exhibit a well-developed teaching strategy and a keen ability to analyze and solve movement problems.

Christopher and Caroline teach regularly in the San Francisco area, contributing to the high quality of tango that area is famous for. They have instructed and performed at major festivals and weekend workshops throughout the country. Their experience dancing throughout the United States, Europe, and Buenos Aires gives them a well-rounded perspective of the contemporary world tango scene.

Robin grew up in Belfast in the north of Ireland and moved to New York to go to film school. He worked as a professional photographer for 13 years before turning pro as a tango teacher and DJ. Strangely enough he came to tango from rock and ice climbing rather than a background in other dance forms. But he contends that nothing he ever did in ice climbing was as scary as asking a woman to dance when he was a beginner.

Robin Thomas is one of the top tango DJ's in North America. He dj's many regular milongas in New York City as well as travels around the country to provide music at festivals.

  "A Media Luz" in Spanish means half light. The dance hall will be lit with ONLY candle lights for the entire night.
  
  Cobblestone Farm dance hall features three-story oak beam frames, creating a dramatic cathedral ceiling and loft. It also has a spacious hardwood floor that is excellent for dancing.
  
  And Christopher & Caroline will be performing and DJing!

Due to the size of the room, enrollment in each workshop is LIMITED to 80. As we process registrants on a first-come-first-serve basis, enrolling well in advance will assure you a spot in the workshops and save you money as well (see prices below). It will also give the organizers ample time to handle your requests (we appreciate your early enrollment greatly!).

• Drop-ins: $5 (students) / $10 (non-students)

Housing with local dancers may be available for those out-of-towners who register prior to September 15. If you are interested, please email matc_housing@yahoo.com.

Local dancers who house out-of-towners will receive a 25% discount on the workshop cost. If you are a local dancer interested in providing housing, please sign up online.

The Chemistry building is few hundred feet North-NorthEast of Angell Hall. Free covered parking at specified times on weekends and evenings (please see signage on structure) is available in the Church Street parking structure which is on Church St. between N. University and South University.

From US-23 to the East, take Exit 37, turning west onto Washtenaw Avenue towards Ann Arbor. Turn left at the next major intersection onto Huron Parkway. At the first light, continue going straight as it becomes Platt Road. Turn right at the second light onto Packard. The farm will be on your right just after Easy Street. Turn right into the Buhr Park grounds and park on the left across from the farm.

Free covered parking at specified times on weekends and evenings (please see signage on structure) is available in Thompson Street Parking structure which is right behind the Michigan Union. Thompson street is parallel to and one block west of State St.

The most time consuming thing for us as organizers is when people ask us questions (email, personal, or telephone). We definitely do not mind answering your questions but many of the questions can be answered by either reading our website or this email thoroughly.
