Skate Night

On December 7, UM Stars hosted its third annual skate night - aptly titled "Skating with the Stars" - at a packed Yost Ice Arena. Hundreds laced up their skates to enjoy an evening out on the ice. The men's and women's hockey teams made appearances during the fundraiser as well. People were pouring into Yost throughout the entire two-hour event. "Skating with the Stars" raised a grand total of $1,577.17 through ticket sales and donations, bringing the semester to a successful end for UM Stars.

The event could not have attracted such a fantastic turn-out without the help of our wonderful Skate Night committee! Advertising for this event truly influenced its outcome. A sincere thank you to all UM Stars members who contributed to making "Skating with the Stars" a huge success!

Bowling Night

Congratulations UM Stars! The 2007 Hoedown Bowl was named one of the most successful UM Stars fundraising events ever.

On January 26, UM Stars hosted its second annual bowling night at Colonial Lanes. Over two hundred people packed into the bowling alley for a night of bowling with friends, listening to country music and playing games. Many raffle participants won great prizes, which included pistons tickets and a gift bag from Saks Fifth Avenue.

We would like to thank our amazing bowling night committee for all of their hard work, because without them the event would not have been a success.

We received over $4,000 in lane sponsorships, which covered the cost of renting out the whole bowling alley for the night. Thanks to their active involvement in planning the event, we made just under $4,000 on the event that will go straight towards making wishes come true. Yeehaw!!

Funds raised: $5,916.00

Potbelly Night

Potbelly's Night on Thursday, February 15 was a successful fundraiser and a great social event for all who participated. $287.18 was raised to be put towards Wish Ball expenses.

Thank you to those UM Stars members who volunteered to help with last-minute planning. Advertising, decorating, and game preparation went very smoothly because of your help!

Please thank the Potbelly team next time you stop by the sandwich shop for their tremendous support of UM Stars and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. And, thank all of your friends who helped make this first Potbelly's fundraiser such a fun and successful event for UM Stars!

Bar Night

On February 8, UM Stars hosted its annual bar night at Touchdowns Cafe. Nearly 300 people came out for a night of dancing and partying, which earned $1120 for the organization! Those who came enjoyed a night of dancing, games, and partying with friends.

We would like to thank the Bar Night Committee members for all of their help with ideas and advertising (especially everyone who stood out in the freezing cold to pass out fliers on the diag!). Without them, we would never have reached the heights that we hit. Cheers!

Funds raised: $1,125.00

Wishball

The night was a great success! We made $18,000 in profit and over 200 guests attended. The Harmonettes performance was great, as well as the speeches by Miss Michigan 2006, Make-A-Wish staff member Susan Smith, and Betty Simonis, mother of Wish Kid Matthew. Ben & Jerry's was a hit and the silent auction and raffle were well-liked and very successful. The wish kids and their friends had a blast dancing around on the dance floor, and it was great to see so many members there. Thanks again for a great night!

Funds raised: $18,600.00
Highlights: Another first for UM Stars! Great speakers, seeing our Wish Kids, successful raffle and silent auction... a beautiful event!

SAE Mudbowl

On October 28, 2006, Sigma Alpha Epsilon hosted the 73rd annual Mudbowl in the front lawn of SAE. This charity event is one of the longest running homecoming traditions at the University of Michigan, as well as an integral event for the local Ann Arbor community. The Mudbowl is a touch football game between the members of SAE and the victors of the fraternity play-in tournament. The distinctiveness of the event comes into play when the 40 yard front yard is flooded with 10,000 gallons of water by the local fire department to create a foot deep of mud for the playing field. There are typically 2,500 fans in attendance.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon recorded its second straight shutout by defeating Beta Theta Pi 32-0, while Delta Delta Delta was limited to a scoreless tie against Chi Omega. ESPN recorded highlights of the event that were played during the nationally televised Michigan vs. Northwestern homecoming game as well as during the introduction to SportsCenter. In addition, both CBS and NBC included a Mudbowl spot in their local news; Ann Arbor News captured the event with photographs and a brief article in the morning paper.

The SAE Mudbowl is by far the largest fundraising event organized by a single fraternity in the Michigan Greek system. Because of the generosity and kindness of many patrons, the event raised an unprecedented total of $17,825 this year. The proceeds were donated to C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and The Make-A-Wish Foundation. UM Stars earned $5,680 from the event, which will give us the opportunity to grant yet another wish in the coming months.

Thank you to all members who attended the event and volunteered. Your dedication made this event the huge success that it was.
