The Anaerobic Tournament

2/3/10

A favorite of Head Coach Gregg Hartsuff's, the tournament which takes place annually in early February sees pre-seeded oarsmen pass through a series of heats, quarter finals, and semi finals with the ultimate goal of pulling six 500 meter pieces as fast as humanly possible. The result: Varsity and Novice Oarsmen pushing their bodies to the limit in the first piece, and then pulling five more.

OSU Duel: A Tradition of Excellence

11/21/09

The competition, established in 1992 in Columbus takes place annually on the morning of the football game. The race site alternates between the two team’s campuses and centers around the possession of a rather unique trophy: an old oar aptly named the “Wolverbuck Oar” jointly painted in OSU and U of M colors. According to tradition, the oar passes from the hands of the previous winning team to the new champions, though for more than a decade the oar has maintained its position in the hands of the Wolverines.

Head of the Eagle

10/31/09

Halloween found the Wolverines racing in the scariest of places. Indianapolis' legendary winds make a regatta always an unnerving prospect, but the inconsistent conditions on the course never kept the racing from going off as planned. It was great racing at that, with the level of competition in the Midwest reaching new heights. Grand Valley, Notre Dame and Purdue all made statements in one way or another. However, the Michigan Men performed well in races all day long on their way to medals in 12 events and another strong performance from top to bottom of the team.

Head of the Charles / Head of the Grad

10/18/09

This weekend saw Michigan splitting time at two races, the largest regatta in the world, the Head of the Charles, and the beloved annual race against MSU, the Head of the Grand. Success at each regatta caps another good weekend for the Maize and Blue.

Experience pays off for the Freshman at Head of the Rock

10/7/09

On their way to winning two gold medals, the Freshman Four and Freshman Eight each set course records in Rockford, Illinois this weekend. The Varsity, not to be outdone, won both the Collegiate and Lightweight Eights and both Fours races as well. They were only three seconds off the 2007 Michigan Eight and the course record in the collegiate eight event.

Back to Back

9/7/09

Coming back from their repeat at the ACRA National Championship Regatta, where the Michigan Men successfully defending their Team and Varsity 8 Titles from the regatta's inaugural championship by winning all four heavyweight 8 events, some might wonder-what is next? The team returns several members from the top boats and with a huge and talented sophomore class to compliment and challenge the upper classmen, a record breaking return to the varsity squad shows the guys are still hungry. Tryout week gives them their first shot to show their work over the summer has them in a good place to challenge for the top boats.

ACRA National Championships

5/25/09

Michigan managed to sweep the heavyweight eights at the American Collegiate Rowing Association Championships, all by open water. No finish was more spectacular than another as Michigan was clearly "head and shoulders above everyone" else Coach Hartsuff commented. (5/25)

#19 Michigan at #2 Wisconsin

4/11/09

After a short week of training following the San Diego Crew Classic, Michigan headed to Madison to duel University of Wisconsin.
The Defending National Champions, Wisconsin's team was very strong top to bottom and swept Michigan in all events.

San Diego Crew Classic

4/10/09

The Varsity Eights chance to win the Copley Cup were lost with a very exciting heat. The race came down to Michigan, Princeton and Yale for the final spot and unfortunately, the Wolverines took third in that pack.
