What keeps you committed to sexual violence prevention? A number of things keep me committed to this work. First, after working with survivors of sexual violence, I came to realize not only the pervasive nature of the problem, but also the complex obstacles and injustices that survivors experience when dealing with this trauma. Second, after working in community education and outreach, I came to understand how widespread certain misconceptions are surrounding sexual violence in our society. These realizations have fueled my energy to help create a system that is more supportive of survivors' needs and a society that is more educated about sexual violence. This awareness has also helped me understand that putting a band-aid on a problem will not ultimately solve the problem. Only by addressing some of the root causes of sexual violence will we be able to take the necessary steps towards prevention.
