Our Team

For introductions to Michigan Rowers, check out the online team roster -- which includes rowers' undergraduate majors, hometowns, and links to their rowing biographies. To get a sense of the history of the Michigan Rowing program, check out the section on Michigan Rowing as well as the "Our Alumnae" page and the alumnae section of the website. Check out, too, the section of our site that shows you what sorts of leadership and service contributions that Michigan Rowers are up to -- the team won the Athletic Department's Townsend Award for its community involvement this year. Here's more of the spirit of Michigan Rowing.

"I was at the Canadian Erg Championships five years ago competing for my high school, and there were four girls who I knew were Michigan Rowers in a race following mine who had huge smiles on their faces. They were all so athletic looking I couldn't help but notice them. They all pulled fabulous times on the erg, I believe three of them went under seven minutes, and when they finished they turned right around with the same exuberant smiles on their faces. That attitude was astounding to me, and I knew I wanted to be part of a team like that. I visited several schools on my official visits and Michigan was the only one where I felt at home. I've since discovered the culture of Michigan is that which was exemplified to me so many years ago: enthusiastic work ethic both in the boat and in the classroom, and the thing is, it rarely feels like work. It is great to be a Michigan Wolverine." -- Julia Nelson, Class of 2010

"Rowing for Michigan has been the most amazing experience of my life. It is the toughest thing I have ever done but it is character building. When I leave here it will be the one thing that shaped me most as a person. Michigan Rowing has forced me to push my limits not only as an athlete but in every part of my life." -- Emily Shea, Class of 2007

"To me, the most striking thing about Michigan Rowing is that the program really acknowledges that contributions to success come in many forms, not just big ergs or big bodies or big wins. The coaches have done a fantastic job facilititating a team where novices can push veterans and athletes sometimes mistaken for coxswains can challenge Olympians." -- Carla Bezold, Class of 2007
