Permissions/overrides will be valid for 3 business days. If a student does not use the permission by the expiration date, a staff member will ask the Registrar's Office to drop him/her from the waitlist. The space will then be offered to the next eligible student on the waitlist.
Near Eastern Studies concentrators and minors will be given preference on the waitlist over non-NES students. Waitlisted concentrators will have priority over minors. Concentrators will be granted permissions/overrides based on their class standing, with seniors given priority.
For language classes, seniors fulfilling the language requirement will be given first priority.
A staff member will monitor waitlists until the first day of class, issuing permissions/overrides only when there is an open space. After the first day of class, approval will only be granted by instructors.
Advisory Notes for Students
- Registration on a Near Eastern Studies waitlist does not guarantee that a student will be given an override/permission at any time.
- Waitlisted students are not automatically registered when a space opens up in the class.
- Permissions automatically generate an email to the student, notifying them that they can register for a class and when the permission expires.
- Students will not be able to register for a course (add a course) until they are issued a permission and have dropped themselves from the waitlist.
