Developing the Equations

2. Concentration of Antivenom in the Blood

The antivenom in the blood participates in various reactions - gets adsorbed onto the receptor site (reaction 2 ), reacts with venom in the blood (reaction 5), reacts with venom molecules bound to the sites (reaction 4) and also gets excreted from the body (reaction 6).

The overall rate of generation of antivenom in the blood would be the sum of individual rates of generation from all of these reactions.

                                                                                           (E-11)

The terms on the right hand side are rates of generation of antivenom in reactions 2, 4, 5 and 8 respectively.

The rate equations for the elementary reactions are as follows:

                             (E-12)
                                                                                                             (E-13)
                                                                                                                      (E-14)
                                                                                                                         (E-15)

Combining the batch reactor design equation (equation E-4) with the material balance (equation E-11)and rate laws (equations E-12 to E-15) gives us the governing equation for concentration of antivenom in the blood:

                                                  (E-16)
