U of M Team Pool Championships

Bonus Points
Individuals can earn bonus points toward final team standings in a number of ways, listed below. Point values are still pending discussion and may be adjusted by democratic vote in the Captains' Meeting on Friday night. If you have a suggestion for new Bonus Points opportunities, give them to your captain for discussion at the meeting or discuss them ahead of time on the Facebook group!
Note: bonus points count toward total team standings, not individual event standings.
- Highest single inning in straight pool.......................... 25
- Highest 10-inning score in straight pool..................... 25
- 8-ball on the break (without scratching)...................... 25
- Break & run the rack (8-ball)...........................................10
- Break & run the rack (9-ball)............................................10*
- Run rack from opponent's fruitless break (8-ball) ....... 5
- Run rack from opponent's fruitless break (9-ball)........5*
- 9-ball on the break ...........................................................5
* Combos and caroms do not count for bonus points as a "Break and Run," except an 8-9 combination. This was unanimously voted by Captains and Coaches in 2006.
Ties / Anomalies
- When team points exceed 1st place points in 9-ball, the trophy will be awarded to the winning pair; the medals will be awarded to the winning school.
- Example: Team 1 from Illinois wins the 9-ball Tournament, but from Mansfield, Team 1 finishes 2nd place and Team 2 finishes 3rd place. In this case, Mansfield wins the team medals but the 9-ball trophy goes to Illinois.
- In the event that there is a tie for points (for example, one pair wins the tournament for 300 points, but the other pair from their team does not earn points; two pairs from another team earn 100 and 200 points for a total of 300), the trophy and medals will both be awarded to the winning pair. There will not be a playoff.
- 8-Ball Tie Breaker
(adopted for 2010 tournament) in the event of a dead tie after all 16 games of 8-ball are played:
- Each team must pick its best player for a single race to 2.
- Lag for first break
- Alternate break
- Winner of Race to 2 wins the match for their team.
- Each team must pick its best player for a single race to 2.
- All-Events Tie Breaker
(adopted for 2010 tournament)
- Each team pick one player for 8-ball, one player for modified straight pool, and two players for 9-ball
- 8-ball - Race to 2
- 9-ball - Race to 3
- Modified Straight Pool - 5 innings for high cumulative score
- The team that wins at least two of the above contests wins the UMTPC.
- No bonus points are accumulated during this Tie Breaker.
