hitb5.arc: HyperIt! beta version 0.5 By Bill Kendrick, New Breed Software 1995 This is the 0.5 beta version of HyperIt!, a program which gives the user a script-like language with which they can create "stacks." Stacks are sets of "cards." What're cards? They're screens which (currently) contain: Background graphics, 40x24 text (of any font(s)), up to 16 buttons. Each button can (at the moment) be a link to another card or quit the stack. Buttons can be around text, an area of graphic, etc. The user uses a pointer (controlled with a joystick or keyboard only in this version) to click the buttons. An online help file is available from the stack-selection screen. THIS PROGRAM REQUIRES MYDOS 4.53. (4.50 can work, too, so I've heard.) It DOES NOT RUN UNDER SPARTADOS. In fact, it is the cause of one user's hard drive crashing (tsk tsk.. read docs more carefully folks! <;^) ) Three sample stacks are included (one is far from done) as well as a simple program which converts .DIR files into MyDOS subdirectories (and vice-versa). Be sure to run it (it's called Dir2File) on the .DIR files included in the hitb5.arc ARC file otherwise you'll have very little to look at! (Unless you decide to make your own stacks! :) ) Be warned again: A) DON'T RUN ON SPARTADOS. If you don't have MyDOS, go FTP the small (12K) .DCM'd copy of MyDOS 4.53/4 from UMich and make a MyDOS boot disk. B) The HyperIt! scripted language is not only being added to, but some commands may be removed. Don't make too many stacks and ASSUME that future versions of HyperIt! will run them properly! :) HyperIt! was (and is being written) more or less entirely in Action! (killer language... get it if you don't have it and love programming). If you've seen HyperCard (Mac), the World Wide Web, MS Windows Online Help, CardStax (Atari 8-bit) or any other "hyper-text" type software, you'll know what HyperIt! is all about.
