To a legend and an honorable man, thank you for the inspiration, leadership and integrity you provided. God Bless you on your new journey and watch over and care for your family and loved ones in their hours of need. As a former grid iron member and a Maize and Blue Faithful, I am proud to have shared the experience of wearing the same colors as you did. Thank you and God Speed.

It has always been a source of pride for us that our great university could count among its numerous illustrious alumni, a president of the United States, Gerald R. Ford. A true statesman and a man of integrity who represented his state, nation, and alma mater with dignity and dedication. With the passing of Bo Schembechler and now President Ford, Michigan has lost two of its best examples of what it means to be a "Michigan man". We extend our sympathy and appreciation to his family, and salute his life and legacy. Thank you Mr President. Go Blue!

It was with great sadness to learn of the passing of President Ford, Michigan's favorite son. Michigan loses a remarkable local boy, the U of M loses one of its great athletes, that helped to develop Ford's outstanding character, and our nation loses a great leader, whose dedication for healing this nation and putting it right will be a lasting tribute to his legacy. Our prayers and thoughts go out to Betty Ford and the President's family, knowing he is resting comfortably in God's hands.

My condolences to the Ford family. Gerald R. Ford was to me an honorable Great American, an example of what an American can be by sticking to your beliefs and having a strong family to get you there. A pure American at his best.

I was born the day President Ford took the Oath of Office. I was born and raised in Kalamazoo where I too became an Eagle Scout. I earned my letter in football while graduating with an engineering degree from the University of Michigan. I had the opportunity to listen to President Ford speak at Grand Valley State University on my very first Boy Scout trip. I met him on a few of his visits to Schembechler Hall. I have always looked up to his example as a leader with integrity and honor. He is one of the finest examples of living the Scout law and oath, and of a MICHIGAN man. He will be missed. God Bless him and his family.

Only being a teenager, I feel that although I have not lived through President Ford's political career, I have come to know a man on compassion and kindness. His name on the welcome sign to East Grand Rapids shined everyday in yellow as I was traveling to school. His picture has hung prominently on the wall at Kent Country Club ever since I can remember. On my way to my cottage, I always noticed the presidential museum sitting over along the river, with the spaceman in front of the flag. And while paying homage to the 38th president at his birthday celebration in Grand Rapids, MI as a Gerald R. Ford Council Honor Guard member, my fondest and most touching memory exists. I watched the president throughout the ceremony, noting his grace and exposition, and at the end, after retiring the colors, I was able to meet President Ford and while shaking my hand, he spoke only words of wisdom and encouragement. It is that memory that I will live with for the rest of my life and thank him for! My deepest homage to a president of love, compassion, and deep sincerity who led a country into a time of joy and greatness. Thank you.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and personal friends of the late president. I was honored to begin my service in the United States Marine Corps under his command. He was a most capable Commander-in-Chief, and I felt confident under his leadership. It was also a simply wonderful time to celebrate our nation's Bicentennial under his presidency. I don't think I could have thought of a better person to celebrate this time with than the man who guided our nation through one of its most troubled times, and ensured the commemoration of our nation's independence would be one fill with hope and optimistic vision.

We lost a great man yesterday. He healed our country when it needed it the most. He had the courage to make decisions based on what was best for the country, not for his political gain. Whenever a leader does this, it is true leadership. Like what has been stated by many before, he loved God, family and country.

Dear Mrs. Ford and family,

I was not yet alive while your late husband was serving as President, but that is not to say that his influence has gone unfelt. Mr. Ford's ascent to the White House has fascinated me since I was old enough to understand the election process. Many better people than myself have spoken to Mr. Ford's character, and I believe that he was a rare man in Washington — a decent, honorable, and honest man. The loss of Mr. Ford leaves an unifiable hole in the conscience of America. I pray that the young people of my generation learn from both your late husband's character and his actions while serving Michigan and the United States as a whole.

May God bless you and your family, and may He grant you strength and serenity as the entire nation intently focuses on your lives.

As Canadians who deeply respected President Ford, on behalf of our family, Joan & I want to express our sympathy and gratitude to President Gerald Ford, who took the road less travelled by acting unselfishly to heal the wounds of the Watergate era. President Ford always acted in the best interest of his country, even though it cost him politically. Our heartfelt sympathy to Mrs. Ford and their family. God bless and keep them all.

I express my heartfelt condolences to the Ford family and thank them for the gift they gave our country in President Ford. What I admire most about the President is that when he stepped up to lead our country he did so without consideration of what might be best for him politically; he led because we needed a leader to help us heal. I think many others would have waited for happier (and easier) times to lead. As a current student at the University of Michigan, I am honored to study where President Ford did and would be happy if I am able to give to our country even a fraction of what President Ford was able to during his lifetime.

My family and I have admired President Ford immensely over the past many years. He was a rarity — a politician who first and foremost was a public servant, a gentleman, and a terrific example to all his countrymen and women. We are saddened by his loss, but we are inspired by the model of thoughtful intelligence and humility that he set for all of us. Deepest condolences and admiration to Mrs. Ford and their wonderful family.

During the Twentieth Anniversary of the Assassination of President Kennedy, my father was producing a two-hour film about the life of JFK and asked my younger brother and I to fly to Rancho Mirage with him to interview President Ford. I was so excited to meet the President, how could I say no?

Upon our arrival, we were whisked into his private office and were told that we had 30 minutes to set up for the interview. That's not a lot of time so we got busy. With 5 minutes to go we had everything ready or I thought we did. I was the cameraman, my brother was running sound and Dad was the interviewer. I asked Drew how the mics tested out when he turned to me and said I hear voices. I put on the headphones and sure enough we were getting radio signals from the Secret Service standing outside the office. With only minutes to spare I quickly spread the mic lines out on the floor so they would not interfere with one another and it worked. Thirty seconds later in walked the President and I was standing right in front of him and he said "Hello there, is everything ready?" and I said "Yes, sir, Mr. President", and with that the interview was a success. I recall him as being a man of great leadership, honesty, and a person who felt very strongly about the United States!

He will be missed and I'm glad I had the opportunity to meet him. May he rest in peace.

Our heartfelt sympathy and gratitude to the family of President Gerald R. Ford. As Baby Boomers, we have witnessed many historical events. But no event exceeds in importance to President Ford's answer to his country's call for presidential leadership and integrity in 1974. God bless you!

My deepest sympathies to the Ford family on this sad day. My Grandfather, Stan Fay, played quarterback to Mr. Ford's center 1932 and 1933, the back-to-back national championships. They demonstrated in their lives what it means to be a Michigan Man through the principals of honor, teamwork and quiet strength. I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Ford, but I have copies of the team photos on my wall (my Dad has the originals). I pass them every day on my way out into the world and their image reminds me to play like a champion in life as well as on the field.

Sandy (LS&A '58) and I (Law '58) send our condolences and deepest sympathies to the entire family. As snow birds living in La Quinta in the winter months, we were fortunate to be able to see President and Mrs. Ford from time to time at events in the Coachella Valley. As Americans we are thankful for their service to our country and its people. As Michigan Alumni we are proud to to have had a kinship of sorts with President Ford. Right now we are certain that he, Fielding, Fritz and Bo and a lot of great Michigan Alumni are all looking forward to watching the Wolverines on New Year's day. He was a great American and he will always be remembered as such.

Dear Ford Family,

I am deeply saddened today to learn of the loss of President Ford. As a Democrat for my entire life, and a graduate of The University of Michigan Rackham Graduate School, I hold a a deep regard and special fondness for President Ford. He was a man of grace and honor and could reach "across the aisle" without bitterness. It is the country's loss that such decent men are now far and few between. He will be missed and loved by Americans both Republicans and Democrats.

My family expresses their sorrow and their appreciation. We hope these heartfelt thoughts will help you get through this difficult time, and know that he lived an honorable life.

As a husband and father he must have been a wonderful man because his family seems to be so well adjusted. I respect you all and thank you for your service with President Ford. I've always been so proud to have a fellow Michigan man as a President. President Ford epitomized what politicians are supposed to be: honest, dependable and committed to the public they serve. We need more like him as a politician and as husband and father.

As an American and graduate of what is now the Ford School and Yale University, I'm deeply saddened to learn of Ford's passing. I was a young child when President Ford served, but even today am struck by his integrity and commitment to public service. As someone who works in the public policy arena, I believe that his solid midwestern centrism and humility is sorely lacking today. May others be inspired by his example.

My thoughts are with the Ford family at this difficult time. We appreciate your sacrifices for the nation.

For any person who loves the University of Michigan, it is an extremely sad day. The Michigan family has lost another great member who exemplified everything the University of Michigan stands for: Leadership and Integrity. Plain and simple, I am proud to wear the Maize Block "M" on my chest because of the greatness that it represents. President Ford personified that greatness.

President Ford was a hero to me. I spent many afternoons during my days as a student at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, wandering through his library between classes. Meeting him in person was one of the biggest honors of my life and I do not believe America will ever again see a President as honest, humble or genuine as Gerald R. Ford was…But I pray that we do. He was a true hero and a selfless public servant. My heart goes out to his family during this time of mourning. May God bless you and comfort you all.

On behalf of the University of Wisconsin-Madison College Republicans we extend our deepest sympathies to Mrs. Ford, and the Ford Family, in this time of tragedy. Wisconsin and all the other states in the union are grateful for President Ford's basic, common-sense leadership in a time of national division. To the Ford Family,

Sandy and I were saddened to hear about your husband's (father's) death. We admire what he did to "right the ship" after the Watergate Scandal. I'm not sure that Americans as a whole will ever truly appreciate the work that he did. We can proudly say that we voted for him in 1976 and we don't regret it. Please know that we are praying for your family in your time of sorrow. Both of us know the pain of losing our fathers in death. We sympathize with you in your loss.

Thank you for sharing your husband(father) with all of us!

God bless you all!

I was there on September 15, 1976, in Crisler Arena, to hear President Ford kick-off his run for the Presidency. I was a senior at Michigan that year. I voted for him in the fall too. My first vote for President, and still my best. A man of courage, who put the long-term interest of the country ahead of short-term personal gain. I believed it then, when I was 21, and believe it now 30 years later.

I had the honor to meet President Ford twice. I greeted him both times with a "Go Blue, Mr. President". Both times, I got a quick smile and "Go Blue" in return. The second time, on a flight from Dallas, Michigan was playing that evening, what at the time, was an important basketball game. After our "Go Blue" exchange, the President ask me, "How did we do in the game tonight?".

It will be impossible to forget President Ford. This summer, we fulfilled my 30-year ambition and purchased a second home in Vail. Every time we drive past Ford Park, or take a run down Simba, I will think of him, what he did for the country, and our connection to Michigan.

God speed, Mr. President

The first time I voted for a President, it was for President Ford. I watched the television with awe and respect as he took office after President Nixon.

Sincere condolences to the Ford Family,

I'm a second generation UM alum and a former Grand Rapidian. Growing up in that city, I often heard the name of Gerald Ford, our congressman. Even as a child, I heard the respect people held for him when they talked about him. My father, Leon Harrington, had some association with Ford as a local attorney and a Republican, but it was my mother who described him in a nutshell by saying he was one rare example of a "good and honest" politician (she was a Democrat).

But the truth of her statement was never made so clear as when, after assuming the presidency, President Ford squandered his strong popularity by pardoning Richard Nixon. I knew he did the right thing for our country. Not having been elected, he was in a unique position to do it. Just as when he was a team player for UM, he did what needed to be done to move the nation forward.

I work for the United States Post Office of Ann Arbor. I don't know much about him, but from what I heard, he was a good and proud man. I wish I would have been around when he became president. You are in my prayers, and I wish you the best of luck. It's not easy losing someone so close. We are all hurting over his passing. Again, I'm so sorry.

As a graduate of Grand Rapids South High School ('63) and the University of Michigan ('67 BA; '75 JD), I share a couple of things with President Ford. I only wish I had contributed only a fraction as much as he did to the betterment of our fellow human beings. Gerald Ford was a truly great man who will be missed by all. My thanks, condolences, and sympathies to Betty and the rest of President Ford's family.

One of my neatest memories from my four years at the University of Michigan was shaking President Ford's hand (at Angell Hall) during a campaign appearance in 1976. That November, I voted for him by absentee ballot — my first vote in a presidential election. (Haven't voted for a Republican since.) He was a truly great American.

Dear Ford Family,

I was greatly saddened to hear of the loss of President Ford. As a child, I remember my parents saying that he was a man of integrity and someone to trust. I don't remember what prompted me to write him a letter; but in my best nine-year-old penmanship and with my sharpest Number 2 pencil, I wrote him a letter telling him how glad I was that he was President. I never imagined that I would receive a letter in return and also an autographed picture. My older sister tried to tell me that it was probably a form letter with a stamped signature, but I argued against it for that was not the point. The President of the United States thought enough of me to see to it that someone sent me a letter. Whether it was a form or not, I felt special because of it. Over the course of my life, wherever I have lived, that picture and letter went with me.

Thank you for sharing your husband, father, and grandfather with the rest of the nation. He was truly a great man of integrity and will be sorely missed. Your family will be in my prayers.

Sincerely,

I have just read some of President Ford's quotes. I am referring to the quotes he made just after he became president. My respect for him has quadrupled, and I wish I had gotten to know more about him. We Americans tend to sometimes not pay attention until it is too late.

While I served in the Marine Corps from 1970–1978, my service was uneventful. I can however proudly say that Gerald R. Ford was MY "Commander in Chief". Rest in Peace, My President. Thank you for your dedication and public service. God Bless your Family.

As a third-generation Michigan student, I grew up hearing about all the important qualities that the University signifies: intelligence, loyalty, resolve, and many more. I was very saddened to hear of President Ford's death, as he was the embodiment of all these qualities, and made the UM community very proud. My condolences go out to Mrs. Ford and the entire Ford family during this difficult time, and I'd also like to say thank you for sharing your wonderful husband, father, and grandfather with America.

I am 41 y.o. now, but I greatly admire President Ford and still remember his days as CIC. He just seemed like a decent, solid, hard working good person, a "michigan man" thru and thru and more important a great american. The more I learn about him the more I like him. I think as ex-presidents go he has flown under the radar because he never was a self-promoter, to his great credit, but I think as time goes on our respect for him will grow even more. He never was mean or petty to his opponents and was not afraid to make unpopular decisions. He seemed very humble and I think he would've been elected in '76 if not for the Watergate hangover and Vietnam. I respected his judgment and practicality and I would like to send my condolences to his family and people all over America and Michigan who loved this great man…how lucky this nation was to have him.

Sincerest regards and sympathy,

He pulled this nation up, to respect, once again, the Office of the President, after a terrible time in our history. His plans for his own funeral show his great love and humor; to play "The Victors" is the sign of a great, loyal Michigan alumnus, and at the same time, a great sense of humor.

I remember Christmas vacation 1987. I was a sophomore in high school and visiting Beaver Creek, Colorado with a friend and his family. Politics had always fascinated me. Beaver Creek is a pretty small place so I had a hunch who I might see if I went to the Christmas Eve service in town. Sure enough a few minutes after I arrived President and Mrs. Ford came in and sat amongst the crowd. Afterward as he was leaving (and coincidentally talking to Jack Nicklaus) I went up to the former president and asked if I could shake his hand. He didn't mind at all and made one high schooler's Christmas. I had met a president! I was thrilled. As I began to read more about Gerald R. Ford I liked what I saw. An intelligent, athletic and good guy. He became a role model for me and in some small way his willingness to shake my hand influenced my decision to attend the University of Michigan two years later.

My condolences and prayers are extended to the Mrs. Ford and the family. He was a wonderful man and will be missed by all. America has lost a true hero.

God bless!

Out of all the things I have found in my family tree it has been an honor to be distantly related to you out of them all. You served your country in the Navy during World War II, and you served it in the House and the Senate before taking upon the duties of Vice president. But most of all you helped this country through hard times and helped bring back our troops from Vietnam as well as to get things back in order. Thank you for being who you were and I will never forget that. Rest in peace.

My condolences to Mrs. Betty Ford and family on the passing of President Gerald R. Ford. He was a blessing to all Americans. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I was a freshman in college when Vice President Ford became the new President. He had a great talent for looking at the big picture and he made the job as president look easy because he was so talented. Even though I am a Penn State graduate I say "Go Blue!" in honor of a great man and president. History has proven that President Ford was indeed a great administrator and a great leader of the free world.

Throughout his long life and career, Gerald Ford exemplified the very highest in integrity, leadership, and humility. His contributions to the University of Michigan and our Nation will never be forgotten—serving as the benchmark for current and future generations.

I had only two personal contacts with President Ford—the first at a UM Alumni function in Washington, D.C., while he was still a Congressman, the other in Ann Arbor when he was appearing on behalf of presidential candidate Ronald Reagan. In both he was most gracious in greeting everyone on a personal basis even if only with a warm hand shake and a few friendly words.

My prayer is that Mrs. Ford and the Ford family will find strength and comfort in these difficult times as they mourn the passing of President Ford and that they will join the nation and the University in celebrating his tremendous legacy.

Dear Mrs. Ford,

I met you and President Ford at the 1968 Republican Convention in Miami. By accident, I got placed in the wrong hotel. Instead of being placed in the Massachusetts hotel, I ended up at the Carillon with Michigan's delegation. I came to Miami several days early. As I came down for breakfast at the same time every morning, I sat with you and then-congressman Ford for breakfast. I was impressed with how comfortable and friendly you both were. On the third morning, Congressman Ford asked, "What are you eating every morning?" I explained that I was eating lox, eggs and onions with a bagel and cream cheese. You both asked the waiter to bring you the same thing. You both proceeded to order this with me on the next several mornings. As I was then a first year teacher, I was touched by your friendliness and acceptance of me.

When Congressman Ford became Vice-President and President, I would tell people that I taught the President of the United States how to eat lox and eggs for breakfast.

Although I am now a very liberal democrat and am now a retired teacher, President Ford still remains my favorite President. Please accept my condolences to you and your family. You were an outstanding first lady and you still are an extraordinary person.

To Mrs. Ford and the Ford Family:

My condolences to you at this difficult time. President Ford accomplished a great deal for the American people at a very difficult time, and demonstrated the kind of political courage and conviction that we very much need today. Most important of all, he was by all evidence a wonderful husband and father.

As a member of the Ford School of Public Policy Alumni Board, I attended the dedication of the Weil Building last October. It was a wonderful day for the President and for the Ford School. Though he was unable to be there in person, I hope that the President was able to enjoy some of the atmosphere and pleasure of that days' honors.

It was an honor for me to pay my respects to President Ford at the Capitol Rotunda on the afternoon of December 31st. It was a moving and appropriate tribute, and I felt proud to be an American.

May his memory be a blessing,

Thank you to the Ford family for sharing your husband, father and grandfather with the world. Thank you for the love of this country. You are the first president I remember. I was not old enough to vote but I was old enough to know what pain the country was in. I remember my parents saying, "Don't worry, our country will get better now that Mr. Ford is in charge." They were right.

From this Michigan family,

Thank you and welcome home, Mr. President.

The University of Michigan has experienced a double loss at the end of 2006. First with the passing of former head football coach Bo Schembechler in November and secondly with the passing of former United States President Gerald Ford. I envision the block letter M flag at half mast with Bo's death and with Jerry, I envision both the United States flag as well as the block letter M flag at half mast. They both truly epitomized leadership with the University of Michigan as their training grounds.

Dear Mrs. Ford, Michael, John, Steven, Susan, Grandchildren, and Great-Grandchildren,

My deepest sympathy for the loss of your husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. My prayers are with his soul, and for you to be strong. By your actions, I could tell what a beautiful, wholesome family life you have had. My wish is that maybe another day, this country will have another Gerald R. Ford as President of the United States.

Thanks for sharing his life, and your life with me.

God Bless All of You!

Love,

A true test of courage is being able to boldly stand by your convictions in the face of opposition. Courage was just one attribute of this multifaceted leader—but the one I most admired. For a man who never really wanted to be President, he made a mark and served our nation well. My sincere condolences to the family for their loss—a loss shared not only by those of us at the University of Michigan, but by a nation of people who respected President Gerald Ford.

As a current student in the Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan, it is a true honor indeed to benefit from President Ford's legacy and example of integrity and courage. I am that much more inspired to use the opportunities of this great country to not only achieve and help others, but to do so with class, good character, respect, and integrity.

As I sit here and watch the funeral processions for President Ford and all the special memories and words spoken in his honor, I give thanks and praise to President Ford and his family for showing us the potential that every American has to live a life of public service with the utmost integrity.

Peace and blessings,

You were a great man and a great American. I remember your time in office and it, in part, is what inspired me to study political science. Years ago I wrote you and asked for an autographed photo and you sent it. I mentioned in the letter that I graduated from Ohio State and to not "hold that against me." I knew that you would not. Thank you for your great service to our country. This Buckeye has always had his hat off to you.

You exemplified what it means to be an American, a president and leader, a Michigander, and a Wolverine. As a family of Americans, fellow Wolverines, and Michigan natives, we will miss you deeply. May our future presidents be as great as you were.

My brothers and I were at a rally in the Livonia Mall, Livonia, Michigan, when President Ford was running for the office of president back in '75. I do not remember much about that because it was so long ago. Thank you.

On behalf of my father, Dr. Gilbert J. Plasman, who died at the age of 88 in 2002, and the rest of the Plasman family, please accept our sincere condolences. My father, a dentist in Grand Rapids for over 40 years, was an undying fan of Gerry's and in fact, campaigned for him in one of his first congressional campaigns. He cherished the photos taken with Gerry and hung them proudly in our family's home.

My dad was a 1940 graduate of the U of M (dental school) and I'm certain he and Gerry will be singing the UM fight song together on January 1 when UM plays in the Rose Bowl.

Go Blue and Go Gerry!

Mr. Ford was a very gentle man in my view. He had the foresight to forgive his predecessor for his misgiving. This made him a giant in my eyes.

Dear Ford Family,

As a child growing up in Grand Rapids my mom would take my brother and I downtown to visit the Ford Museum. It was one of my favorite things to do. It was so impressive to see all the pictures and artifacts in the presidential museum and more importantly that a President grew up in my home town, went to the same high school that my father went to, probably walked in some of the same places that I walked.

I followed in his footsteps to study at the University of Michigan. Through my studies there, I was able to understand how great a man Gerald R. Ford was. I learned of his character, integrity, and how he embodied leadership; rising to a challenge, leading through crisis, making decisions that were not based on popularity but on sound and lasting judgment.

Thank you for sharing President Ford with us all. I am just one more life that he touched and inspired.

Tears filled my eyes as soon as I saw the headline and photo that President Ford had passed away. I immediately recalled my days as a Graduate Student at the University of Michigan, School of Public Health from 1975-1977.

It's his alma mater you know! :)

Anyway, I had been elected V.P. of the Public Health Student Association and my friend Rob Palmer was President. President Ford made a special visit to the campus in April, 1977, shortly after exiting office. Rob and I were invited to have dinner with President Ford, along with other student association governing officials from various schools and departments throughout the campus.

We were seated at the head table. I sat just two people down and across the table from President Ford. I have photographs of me with him, talking and getting autographs. I still have the letter dated March 25, 1977 on U of M stationary from the Office of the President, inviting me to the dinner held in the University President's Home, who at the time, was Robert Fleming.

I remember seeing President Ford again during a Rose parade here, in Los Angeles, another New Year's Day when my alma mater would play the Rose Bowl. I believe it was 1981.

What an honor to have been just 23 years old and having dinner with the 38th president of the United States. I asked if he and Betty would have time for a game of golf and he humorously replied they were busy writing a book. He was kind, funny, warm. Very soft-spoken. Intelligent, wise, hopeful and supportive. Of course he was an excellent athlete, too, having played for the Wolverines.

One of the highlights of my life. A privilege not many experience. My condolences go out to the Ford family. The world has lost a great public servant.

I voted for President Ford when he ran against Jimmy Carter because his humanity, humanity and plain decency was palpable. I also recall that the national television media always tried to ridicule the man for loosing his footing or bumping his head. Little did they know that that was precisely what endeared him—we could all relate! I offer heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Betty Ford, the First Lady, and the family. May God grant strength to sustain them through this difficult time. God Bless President Gerald Rudolph Ford and may he be carried upon the wings of angels. Amen.

In reading everything I can now about President Ford, I am appreciating him anew. What a wise, steady, admirably good man he was. How refreshing and uplifting in today's political climate! In the way he proceeded both amiably and decisively, I see a model for myself to try to emulate. I am exceedingly impressed with the quote—for one—you don't have to be disagreeable to disagree. He was strong and genuine…all these are thoughts I'll mull over for the years to come, and may it improve my own life and contribution. Thank you, as family, for supporting and sharing him with us. And everything about the way you've conducted yourselves and the services moves me deeply--the pride and grief in your faces and the children's obvious concern for their mother; the children's public handshaking in the Rotunda—he generosity of spirit so in tune with your dear loved one. He'd be so proud. And his and your planning of details like the haunting Navy piper at the WW II Memorial stop Sat. night, and entering via the House side—all were so touching and so meaningful in telling us more about him. I'll appreciate him always!

President Ford represents the best that this country had to offer when we needed it the most. Rarely has a man whose ambitions were void of selfishness accomplished so much. Other public servants should take note of his legacy.

I was born in Michigan but moved to Florida when I was 10. I am in my 50s now. It is such an honor to know that I came from the same state as a great and kind man as Gerald R. Ford was. My condolences to the family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mrs. Ford and family,

President Ford was the first president I can remember. I remember him as an amazing man and as I grew up my opinion of him never changed. He truly was the ideal statesman…he did not aspire for greatness, but the greatness was his soul and character. Thank you for sharing this wonderful man with us and helping him to make this a better world.

God bless you in this time of loss and know that the love of so many is sent your way.

I extend my deepest sympathy to the widow and offspring of President Ford. While I was only two when he became the President, my youth was filled with many complimentary statements made by my grandmother on his behalf. My fourth-great-grandfather, Richard Mentor Johnson, was the ninth Vice-President, and I am confident he looked upon the 38th President with great respect. May they comfort each other beyond the pearly gates.

Dear Mrs. Ford, Mike, Jack, Steve, and Susan,

Thank you for sharing your wonderful husband and father with us—your Michigan family. The President exemplified the integrity, hard work, fairness, honesty, and loyalty that is at the heart of a true Wolverine. At this time of reflection, I believe our Nation has truly had a chance to realize how we are better people for having been served so well by our President, Gerald R. Ford. I hope during this time of reflection on President Ford's integrity and ability to work with those "across the aisle" will inspire our current leaders rekindle collaborative efforts for the best government for all the people.

Please take comfort knowing we are all who we are because of him. He will always be with you and us. He truly is one of "the Leaders and the Best."

GO BLUE! and may God Bless you all and give you peace at this difficult time.

Dear Mrs. Ford and Family,

I remember many years ago in my childhood watching the Watergate hearings on television, the resignation of President Nixon, and the swearing in of President Ford. Not really understanding the significance of the events that I was watching. Not realizing until studying American History a decade later the magnitude of the problems President Ford inherited and the controversy of his decision to pardon President Nixon. And not appreciating the history, upbringing, and the makeup of the man who was President Ford. I was proud to attend the same university as this President.

It is said that doing the right thing today, might not always be glamorous or popular. But that doing the right thing today will always be looked upon with respect in the future. History has shown that to be true of President Ford and the decisions that he made of the "today" of the mid 1970s. He had great character. He had great integrity. And God gave him great wisdom when America needed it.

Condolences to your family in the passing of a great man.

President Ford personified integrity, persistence, and loyalty in how he saved our nation out of what looked to be something only a man such as Gerald R. Ford could have brought this country out of. President Ford makes me proud to be a Michigander no less a resident of Grand Rapids in how he brought this country out of such a conflict between two groups of people all the while in Full Faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He also makes me proud to be a Michigan Wolverine!

Our condolences to the Ford family. President Ford embodied all the right qualities necessary to be a good public servant. His integrity and commitment were and will remain a shining example to all those that aspire to enter public office. Today our country reflects back on President Ford's accomplishments and respectfully thanks him for returning decency and healing in our time of despair over the damage that had been done to the Public's trust in its government and institutions.

Most importantly President Ford set an example of living everyday life while raising his family which we were able to witness. To the country your family appeared to be like our neighbors next door.

My wife and I consider ourselves privileged to have met President Ford at an FIA Conference in Florida. He was the featured speaker and he attended a party we hosted. I remember everyone saying how down to earth he was and how comfortable we felt in his presence.

We have lost a Great Leader and we thank your family for sharing him with us. God Bless Mrs. Ford and her Family.

I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Ford direct the very first time in 1996. He was playing in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic and I had the opportunity to let him know I was also a former Player and Alumni from U Of M. He said you had a great coach in Bo Schembechler. I think that is one thing we all share as players at Michigan. We have all had someone that was outstanding in College football coaching…Bo was just one of them…He then hit his next shot and it was right down the middle of the fairway.

My grandparents spoke highly of their Congressman Jerry Ford. Like them, I shall always be proud that he was from Michigan. When he became President, he shared our traditions and values with the rest of the country. His life showed what faith and honest, hard work can accomplish. May the Lord's eternal light shine on him; God bless the Ford family.

My Condolences to all the Ford family, I was saddened when I first heard President Ford had died, I was only about 9 when he was President so he was one of my earliest memories of a President. I was amazed at how strong Mrs. Ford held up through the entire process, it was good to see that so many people showed up to show their respects for him.

God Bless all of you,

President Ford truly was built tough and inspiring. What an exciting time in history! Going through the past week and all of the discussion of what happened in those years brought back such a flood of emotion and appreciation for the greatness of your father. He not only healed our nation but set the perfect example of ultimate selflessness. I remember as a teenager studying so closely what was happening to our country both at home and internationally and trusting because President Ford was at the helm.

Mrs. Ford, thank you for opening so many doors for women today. You may never truly realize all that you have given this country in your elegant and strong way.

You are an iconic American family and our family truly and deeply sympathizes with your great loss. Thank you for sharing your wonderful husband and father with our nation and the world. Thank you for bringing your father back to Michigan. Go Blue President Ford!

I haven't felt the kind of sadness I feel this evening since I laid to rest my own father thirty years ago. We have lost a man of tremendous courage, faith, integrity, and humanness.

I met Mr. Ford thru my uncle when he would come visit us in Connecticut from his home in Michigan back in the early-mid 1960's. They were good friends. And when my uncle's father, my grandfather, passed away in the spring of 1965, my late mother had a difficult time tracking her brother down to tell him the news. Finally, she found him. He was lunching with Mr. Ford in D.C. So, there were more stories for me to hear about this fine man from Michigan.

President Gerald Ford, as a middle-aged baby boomer, I am proud to say that you received my first vote in a national election in 1976. And it is still the best vote I have ever placed for one very basic reason. You were a man of true character. On St. Stephen's Day 2006, the world lost one of our very best.

God Bless you for all that you have given us, President Ford. And God Bless the Ford family.

Condolences to the Ford Family on the loss of such a great man. President Ford lived a remarkable life and I will never forget the time he waived at me when I was a 10-year old boy standing with my family outside the White House. I watched some of the memorials from LA when I attended the Rose Bowl and even teared up a bit at the U-M pep rally and the U-M/USC game when tributes to your husband and father were delivered. From a native Michigander and U-M alum (GO BLUE!), thank you so much for sharing Jerry with all of us.

As I watched coverage of President Ford's body arriving in Grand Rapids, I was shocked to suddenly hear "The Yellow and Blue" being played, followed by "The Victors". It moved me to tears. A true Michigan man, and one we can all be proud of.

Holding the highest office in the land is no small task. I admire President Ford for taking on such an enormous responsibility at a time when doing so required such courage. I was not quite 8 years old when Mr. Ford became President of the United States. I ceertainly did not understand the issues of the day, let alone the controversies that surrounded the Watergate era. I do recall, however, liking President Ford, and I remember asking my neighbor who they were going to vote for in the 1976 election: President Ford! I was personally disappointed that he did not win.

Growing up in Illinois, I never would have imagined that I would someday be both an alumnus and an employee of the University that President Ford loved so much. With his passing, I feel doubly touched by my remembrances as a boy as well as our common association with the University of Michigan. History is the best judge of all things, and I am grateful that our nation, our state, and our University had a man as great as President Ford. Thank you and God bless you.

Dear Mrs. Betty Ford and the children and family of President Ford:

My wife Rebecca and I express our sympathy over the loss of President Ford. At a time in our history when integrity, reconciliation, and vision are lacking, President Ford's sterling example of all three of those qualities is a gift to our great nation.

I was graduated from Michigan's Institute of Public Policy Studies in 1991 and am delighted that the institute is now the Gerald Ford School of Public Policy. The school is now on very firm footing to train future leaders in public service due to the generous support of President Ford and your entire family.

Again, we express our sympathy.

Sincerely,

As a Canadian citizen I had tremendous respect for President Ford as a man and leader. He showed dignity and grace under fire, and an enthusiasm that carried the U.S. out of a dark period in its history. As a Michigan Alumni I am proud to say he was a true "Michigan Man."
